Meet the New Star Fox, Same as the Old Star Fox

So we're finally getting a new Star Fox game after a decade of silence from the series.

And yet again, it's another remake of Star Fox 64.

More than ten years will have passed since Star Fox Zero... which itself was also a remake of Star Fox 64, or close enough to it. You have to go back another ten years to Star Fox Command to reach an original entry in the series.

For some reason Zero is sometimes called a "reimagining" of 64 instead of a remake... I've never been sure what the distinction between the two would be, in this case, since having played it I can confirm it's pretty much just 64 again. With some neat gimmicks, sure, but not much else.

Since Star Fox 64 was released in 1997, we've seen three new titles (Adventures, Assault, and Command, all in the 2000s) and three remakes of 64. Plus whatever one wants to count Star Fox 2 as.

I don't understand what's caused this. The trio of original entries in the 2000s were pretty great, and all sold rather well. I'd love to see an expanded version of Adventures, perhaps with a greater role for Krystal or even an alternate campaign featuring her.

It's especially bizarre to see this from the company which seems to have left the F-Zero series dormant primarily for lack of any idea how to iterate on it. At least, according to Miyamoto back in 2012. "What do you want that we haven't done before?" indeed...
